"As Long as Old Men Sit & Talk About the Weather..."
We might as well get it right.

Everybody likes to talk about the weather, it's the second most frequently discussed subject on the face of the earth.

And, in Texas it's always a popular topic. As we say down here...

"If you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes.
It'll change."
So, here's everything you could ever want to know about...

Rainbow Lore
Did you know you can forecast the weather by the colors in a rainbow? Well, you can!

  • Green is the predominate color, expect more rain.
  • Red means wind and rain.
  • Blue means clearing.
  • If it only shows Red and Yellow, expect fair weather.
  • If the rainbow is broken in several places, or only half is visible, expect more rain for the next 2-3 days.

    Weird but True Rainbow Stories...
    Pots of Gold
A few years ago, a friend and I were in Denver on business, driving west out of town, toward the foothills. The clouds were bizarre, looking like button-tucked seats in a custom car, and the regular afternoon showers had just ended. All of a sudden, rainbows started appearing. Not just one or two, but dozens! Now, that was a pretty spectacular sight in itself. But, some of the rainbows were actually ending on the highway! No kidding, right there on the road was the end of a rainbow! We stopped, got out and stood in/on the end of a rainbow. Now, you're probably not going to believe this, but it's true...the rainbow acted like a shaft of colored light and actually colored the ground, our shoes and clothing where we stood in it. And the pots of gold?
Well, they were apparently at the other ends of the rainbows. So, while just finding the end of a rainbow is difficult enough as it is, you gotta find the right end to get the gold. Hmm, just like life.

    The Disappearing Rainbow
Once while driving from San Antonio to Kingsville, just north of Robstown, I noticed a partial rainbow in the east. As I continued south, more of the rainbow appeared until it was a full rainbow then began disappearing from the other end until it finally vanished. So, when you see a partial rainbow, someone is probably enjoying the full rainbow. The next time you're driving parallel to a rainbow, watch it grow then disappear.

If you have a rainbow or other weather story you'd like to share, send it to me.
